Yoga, Surf & Adventure in Bahia Ballena
I spent last summer in Costa Rica working as a tour guide and surf instructor in the small town of Bahia Ballena, about 15 minutes south of Dominical. The town is very small and chill, it has all the basic accommodations and services that a surfer and/or traveler could need. The beach at Bahia Ballena is great for beginners and still provides some fun waves for intermediate and advanced surfers. There are numerous breaks around the area but you will need some help getting there.
Bahia Aventuras
In Bahia Ballena there are a number of boat tour operators but Bahia Aventuras offers the greatest variety of activities and they have the best equipment in town. They are a locally owned and operated business, and everyone from the owner and manager to the boat captain and second mate are super cool. They offer everything, including:
- Snorkeling
- Dolphin & Whale Watching
- Fishing Tours
- Surf Tours
- Tours to National Parks & Reserves
I highly recommend checking them out for Surfing and Adventure Tours, or even if it’s only for a general tour of the surrounding marine ecosystem.
Pura Vida Yoga Flow
Another activity that comes highly recommended while in Bahia Ballena, or Costa Rica in general, is yoga. Whether you are into yoga or not, Costa Rica offers an ideal setting to take 30 minutes, or whatever it might be, for you to find your inner balance and feel intune with all that surrounds you. You will find many yoga classes offered in Costa Rica, but if you are in the Osa Peninsula area stop by Bahia Ballena and join a class. Pilar Salazar, the yoga instructor at Pura Vida Yoga Flow, has been teaching formal yoga classes for the past 3 years and has an incredible gift for teaching. She offers classes, retreats, workshops and the Pura Vida spirit of her country.
If you have the chance, get down to the central or southern part of Costa Rica, it’s really worth it. I know I can’t wait to go back.
